College Consultants

Finding the college to suit the needs of your son or daughter requires a bewildering trip through the maze of college placement.

Educational Planning Services can steer you through with a full range of college counseling services for high school students and their families.

As a professional college counselor, Bunny Porter-Shirley has spent the past 18+ years getting to know the ins and outs of ACTs, GPAs and SATs. She visits at least 20 colleges and universities a year and has examined hundreds across the country to get a total picture of each school, from academic programs to social life.

Colleges and universities are growing more and more selective. This makes choosing the right school more difficult -- and even more important.

Educational Planning Services can help you make the right choice.

How the College Consultants program works

Bunny Porter-Shirley guides students through the entire selection process, from initial evaluation through their senior year in high school

Timetable
The counseling program is generally begun is a student's junior year. But it's not unusual for a family to schedule an appointment during the freshman or sophomore year. This lets the student keep their options open.

Evaluation
Students and their parents participate in a 1 1/2 hour initial evaluation. This session covers school performance, personal interests, test scores and the student's aspirations. A preliminary list of colleges is then compiled for the student to research.

School visits
Students spend a least one session preparing for college visits. Most of this session is spent role-playing and practicing the interview process. Porter-Shirley recommends that students visit as many potential schools as possible. She offers assistance in planning an itinerary and organizing college visits.

The application process
Once students and their families have narrowed the preliminary list, Porter-Shirely guides them through the application process. she provides assistance in completing applications and sets up a timetable to keep the process on track. She also offers advice on applying for financial aid.

Fees
The entire program is covered by a one-time fee.
