FAMILIES ARE COMPLEX SYSTEMS OF RELATIONSHIPS
As parents, we imprint the many roles that our children learn to live, such as: being a man or a woman, child or sibling, friend, co-worker, spouse, community member, and so on. We learn to parent from our own parents, who learned from their parents, and we can only give from the tools we have been given. Our children may need something different than what we have to offer.
As parents we are a model for being responsible, healthy & positive individuals. We can demonstrate the ability to embrace change, accept help, and strive for improvement.
Our groups are designed to aid in the learning process of reintegrating a family after a long separation. We will help parents navigate the complex path towards developing fresh, healthy family relationships with a child they may not recognize.
Although the presence of other families can be intimidating, the comfort from being able to learn from the various stages of the experience is well worth it.
KIDS ACT OUT FOR A REASON
Once that reason is revealed, students are better able to make conscious choices. We have developed a dramatic, life-changing weekend initiation experience, where families are challenged to look at what is working and not working in their lives. Throughout this weekend, family members learn to trust themselves and each other, as well as the staff that support them through the process. It's a "rites of passage" adventure weekend where positive qualities such as integrity, courage, respect, passion, and leadership are modeled by adults.
Through a series of carefully facilitated processes, each family discovers something of the scope of their own humanity. Families are continually challenged and supported, and find that they can respond in new and effective ways. Finding their own integrity, courage, respect, passion, and leadership, they discover that they can access these qualities and put them to work in their daily lives.
It is an exhilarating, life-changing experience that many families say they "will never forget."
The isolation of the natural setting removes participants from the routines and patterns of their lives so that they can "re-create" themselves. Each family member has the opportunity to let go of old patterns that might no longer serve them. They start fresh, discover new, more mature qualities, and learn and adopt new responsibilities and roles.
