Therapeutic facilities

When family circumstances and special needs require consideration of alternative programs, professionals -- psychologists, social workers, psychiatrists or school counselors -- refer families to Educational Planning Services for therapeutic-educational options.
Because of Porter-Shirley's knowledge and working relationship with therapeutic programs and her ability to relate to families, the professionals turn to her for help with adolescents who present as appositionally defiant in school or are in counseling because of drug and alcohol abuse. To help her meet each child's individual needs, she visits and stays in touch with therapeutic programs and facilities throughout the country. She is thus able to find an intervention program suited to the family and student needs.
